How does the design process work?

Once you reach out, I gather as much information as I can, either through an online questionnaire (if you purchase a consultation online), or through email if you choose to reach out to me directly. We'll then coordinate a time for me to see your space in person and gather additional information, such as photos and measurements. (Please note that if you are a digital consultation client, you will send me this information instead, but I will still walk you through this process!) At this meeting, we'll also review my general contract and more specific process FAQs, so that you feel comfortable with how the design process works. After this meeting, I will customize a contract for your project within my client portal for you to sign digitally. Once I have your signature and a retainer fee, I will start designing!

What does full-service design include?

In short, everything! From initial consult to installation, I have years of experience managing all details of a design project: selection, purchasing and expediting, installation and accessorization. A full-service project can be a single room at a time, or an entire second home, even if you already have a few pieces you'd like me to work with.

How long does the design process take?

While a timeline is project-dependent, a typical full-service or a-la-carte service project will take approximately 8-20 weeks from selection approval to installation. I will be able to give a a more customized timeline estimation at our initial consultation, and will keep you posted every step of the project!

How involved should I be in my project?

As much or as little as you are comfortable! We will discuss this at our initial consult, and I will develop your project scope with your preference in mind.

What is your fee structure?

Full-service and a-la-carte projects are billed hourly, and I deliver an estimate of hours it will take to complete your project within your customized contract so you are of aware of the likely cost of design services. Since scope can increase during the project, any hours outside the initial estimate will be billed at the standard hourly rate. You will always be informed about the status of hours used and reminded of any additional costs associated with requests for increased scope. Once product is purchased from me as part of a full-service design project, my hourly fees for ordering, tracking, managing receiving, and installation are factored into the cost of the furniture and separate hourly fees will not be charged for the procurement process. Digital consultation packages are a flat fee per room.

I do charge a minimal fee for this meeting because I am traveling to you to assess your project needs and put together a customized contract proposal for your project, but there is value in calling in a pro from the beginning to avoid costly mistakes! Digital consultation packages can be purchased here. This fee covers two initial concepts; once your favorite is selected, you will be provided with full information to purchase products on your own.
